New Perspectives on Faith and Development

In association with the RSA

How does faith shape personal and group identities, and what does this mean for the realisation of fundamental social, economic and political rights, especially in such areas as health and education? If faith groups are providing aid, how extensive is the risk of them pushing forward their moral framework on unwilling recipients? And do religious leaders and faith communities in the developing world have the capacity to contribute effectively to national development plans? Are they only interested in the welfare of their own constituencies so that funding them would be divisive? Or are there ways in which groups of different faiths can work effectively together?

Keynote Speaker:Douglas Alexander, Secretary of State for International Development.

Discussants: Matthew Frost, chief executive, Tearfund; Rudo Kwaramba, director of advocacy, communications and education, World Vision UK

Chair: David Aaronovitch, columnist, The Times
